El Morro, a Spanish word meaning promontory, the full name of the fort is San Felipe del Morro. Shines
here at twilight, seen here from across the “killing field”.
Fifteen minutes from San Juan all along PR# 187 are food kiosk, home of puertorrican fast food, and the
shores of Piñones, beaches beautiful to look at but a bit rough for a swim.
The gate of San Juan (in red), seaside entrance to the walled city, where seventeen-century travelers
would enter, above it and to the right is the Santa Catalina Palace; today called La Fortaleza it’s the
official residence of the governor.
In Cayey, a-typical country houses, probably dating back to the 1950’s, add a splash color to the other
wise green topography.
At opposite end of Piñones, on PR# 187 is the beach of Vacia Talega, a bathers paradise and a great
place to watch the sunset.
