...del barranco que conduce al río.
Esperamos que Alfredo, con el machete, fabrique
escalones y limpie...
...espacio bajo un tronco, que bloquea
la “vereda” y que tenemos...
...que pasar por debajo, mientas Alfredo se
coloca en posición para impedir que alguien se
desprenda por el barranco.  
Al otro lado del obstáculo se toma un sonriente
descanso.
Cruzando una quebrada, Alfredo, a machetazos
abre camino...
…that snaking over the steep  slope…
…of the hillside that leads to the river.
De árboles y raíces nos valemos para no caer.
Of trees and roots we avail ourselves to keep from falling.
We wait for Alfredo to hack out steps, with the
machete and to clean…
…a space under the log, that obstructs the
“trail”, and we have to…
…crawl under, while Alfredo positions himself
to keep any one from falling down the hillside.
On the other side of the obstruction, it’s all smiles
at the rest stop.
Crossing a creek, Alfredo, swings the machete to
clear a path…
