Temprano en la mañana, a la vera de
la playa de Joyuda.
Navegando a través del mangle,
para entrar a la laguna de Joyuda,
durante la marea alta. Los mosquitos
son enormes.
Ya en las tranquilas aguas de la
laguna esperamos que el resto
del grupo den alcance.
Xiomara en posición de escoba entra a
la laguna.
En la laguna nos encontramos
rodeados de Aguavivas de mangle
(Cassiopeia xamachana) del
tamaño de bolas de baloncesto.
Le recorremos un circuito completo a
la laguna.
Acercarse mucho al mangle es invitar
a los mosquitos a chupar.
Para kayakear por debajo del
puente durante la marea alta
hay que ser contorsionista.
Rumbo a Cayo Ratones se encuentra
olas y viento pero no mosquitos.
Early in the morning, just off the beach
of Joyuda (Hoyuda)
Navigating thru the mangrove to enter
the Joyuda lagoon, during high tide.
The mosquitoes are enormous.
In the tranquil waters of the lagoon
we wait for the rest of the group to
catch-up.
Xiomara, in the sweep position enters
the lagoon.
In the lagoon we find ourselves
surrounded by mangrove
upsidedown jellies (Cassiopeia
xamachana) the size of basketballs.
We run a full circuit around the lagoon.
Getting close to the mangrove is to
invite the blood-sucking mosquitoes.
To kayak under the bridge at high
tide you have to be a contortionist.
On our way to Mice Cay we encounter
wind and waves but no mosquitoes.
