participante.

El Caño Tiburones y sus sistemas de lagunas es el pantano más extenso en PR y segundo en el Caribe. A
principios del siglo pasado el gobierno trata de drenar y desarrollar las tierras para uso agrícola, intento que
falla, debido a los muchos manantiales de agua dulce y salada y abundante escorrentía, y da oportunidad de
establecer a la reserva natural administrada por el Departamento de Recursos Naturales y Ambientales
(DRNA), pero las tierras todavía están en manos de la  Autoridad de Tierras (AT) y el proyecto puede revivir.
Este humedal es una de las áreas naturales más importantes de los ecosistemas  que tenemos en la isla.
Shark inlet and its lagoons are the most extensive marsh in Puerto Rico and second largest in the Caribbean. At
the beginning of the last century the government attempts to drain the swamp and use the lands for agriculture,
the attempt fails, due to the many fresh and salt-water springs and abundant runoff, this provides the opportunity
to create a nature reserve administered by the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment (DRNA),
but the lands are still in the hands of the Land Management Authority (AT) and the project could still be revived.
This natural wetland is one of the most important ecosystems that we have on the Island.

The bridges where used by trains during
the era of the sugar cane industry.
The sun, the breeze and the paddling
exhausted this participant.
